Hi im Lauren. I’m an artist and designer specializing in segmented wood sculptures and objects. Departing from traditional segmented woodturning, I use a process in which wood segments accumulate into spiraling, curling shapes and forms. This method is an exercise of infinite play- a live 3D sketch of rearranging, adding, and removing angled segments until a final form is intuitively found. Each piece is one of a kind; my work is iterative and process-based, with one sculpture often inspiring the next.

Through my process, I explore themes of creative improvisation and the beauty of small trajectories, never tiring of the endless forms and possibilities that emerge within the parameters of this method. My work is an attempt to balance craftsmanship and spontaneity, hitting on something that is both playful and pays homage to craft-based practices as living, evolving processes.

Originally from coastal Southern California, I spent time in Vienna, Austria before studying sculpture and designed objects at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I now live and work in Los Angeles, with work exhibited across the US in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
