Lauren Trees is the studio practice of artist and designer, Lauren Lauer. Inspired by her childhood nickname and early inability to pronounce her middle name-Therese, Studio Lauren Trees was born out of her love for woodworking and dedication to imaginative and poetic sculpture and design. Her work is an attempt to balance craftsmanship and spontaneity, hitting on something which is both playful and pays homage to craft based practices as living, evolving processes. Her visual language takes from the quiet surrealism of everyday life, often inspired by a “funny feeling” - some uncanny detail in the material world that sparks questions about the self and the unconscious.
Originally from coastal Southern California, she spent many years in Vienna, Austria before studying sculpture and designed objects at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She now lives and works in Los Angeles, with work exhibited across the US in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
